Passenger figures

BATC
- BATC stands for Brussels Airport Terminal Company
- It is not an Airport Authority
- Founded on 11 December 1987
- Joint initiative by and between the public authorities and the private sector
- Mission : to finance, develop and manage the terminal, the parking areas and access roads, and all passenger services
New terminal
- Dimensions : 215 m long, 115 m wide
- Surface area : 215,000 m²
- 8 floors, of which 4 are accessible to passengers (0,+2,+3,+4)
- Departures Hall with 120 check-in counters group in 5 check-in sections
- 28 lifts (plus 4 for goods), 33 escalators, 18 moving walkways
- Air-conditioned to 22-25°C
- Information transmitted on 375 monitors, 23 LCD screens and 2 split-flaps
- The construction of the new terminal required 240,000 m³ of concrete; 27,000 tons of steel; 20,900 m² of glass panels and 70 km of electric circuits, interconnected by a million km of electric cables
- The first European airport terminal with a bar-code scanning system for bagage sorting. Total capacity : 9,600 bags/hour, equivalent to a flow of 25 million passengers/year
- Particular attention is paid to safety and security (400 smoke screens; 160 automatic smoke ventilation panels; 800 smoke detectors, 400 fire alarm buttons, 700 sirens, 23,000 automatic sprinklers, 450 badge readers for access control, 400 protected doors, about 300 cameras)
B-Concourse
- Dimensions : 630 m long, 30 m wide
- 4 floors (technical and operational services, arrivals, departures, lounges)
Tunnel - Topaz - A-Concourse
- Topaz is a separate terminal building for non-docking aircraft
The A-Concourse would be added to it after 2000- Topaz is linked to the main terminal building by an underground tunnel
Improved accessibility
- New train station
- Overpass at Zaventem intersection to improve the link between the motorway and the terminal
