The knighted Pieter Smith Van Gelder (1878-1956) was an art collector whose passion for eighteenth-century art found expression in the architecture and interior of this private mansion.
The result is a patrician house with a tasteful collection of furniture, sculptures, jewellery, oriental carpets, French tapestries and paintings, but above all European, Japanese and Chinese porcelain.
It also houses some masterful older paintings.
