One
year after he had married Isabella Brant, Rubens bought a house at the
Wapper (name of the street) in Antwerp in 1610. Here he also constructed his
studio and workshop. In the house, now Rubens Museum, several works by the
hand of the Master can be seen . In the great Studio there is e.g. an early
work by Rubens "Adam
and Eve in Paradise", painted
in 1600 before he left to go and study in Italy. In the dining-room the self-portrait of Rubens draws most attention. It was painted around 1625-1628, when Rubens was about 50 years old. Furthermore, in the Art Gallery there are three oil-sketches:"The adoration of the Shepherds", "The Martyrdom of St. Adrianus" and "Saint Clara of Assisi". Other works include: a recently acquired portrait of the young Anton van Dijck, Rubens' most gifted student and "The Battle of Henry IV before Paris" (1630). Location:
