region of Brabant, along the meandering upper reaches of the
River Néthen, and bordering on the Meerdael forest,
Beauvechain lies 12 km from Wavre, 10 from Jodoigne, and 40
from Brussels. The district comprises five villages :
Beauvechain Centre (including the hamlet of La Bruyère),
Hamme-Mille, LEcluse, Nodebais and Tourinnes-la-Grosse.
Although the name of Beauvechain is
often associated with its military airfield, by far the
greatest part of the districts 3.859 hectares are rich
farmland. More than 6.000 inhabitants-a harmonious mixture of
born-and-bred "locals" and newcomers-live here in
the shared conviction that this glorious rural heritage must
be treasured and protected.
