A picturesque view of the Sint-Laureis countrysideSint Laureins

A merged municipality uniting six picturesque boroughs, extends for 25 kilometers along the Dutch border. This is the region of the famous monumental church of Sint-Jan-in-Eremo, which is situated in the village of Watervliet , polder countrysides, and vast creeks.
Sint-Laureins is the dream countryside for lovers of peace and silence, a paradise of walkways furrowed with cycle trails.

 

Town Hall of KaprijkeKaprijke

Is essentialy a residential rural municipality, particulary due to its village appearance - protected by preservation acts - unchanged from past centuries.
The magnificent Kaprijke Square, dominated by the monumental Town Hall and its protected church; the characteristic village centre at Lembeke, as well as its woods, all testify to the richness of its past, inviting the visitor to relax and engage in the more contemplative forms of recreation.

 

Chateau of PoekeAalter

Lies in the midst of a great expanse of green countryside with many idyllic spots, small farmhouses, and castles of recent construction. Nature lovers will visit the Kraenepool (pond), Hooggoedbos, and the Oude Vaart, a perfect place for walking and fishing. The Chateau of Poeke also deserves mention.

 

 

Maldegem

An extended municipality with a rural character, is located at the extreme north-west corner of East-Flanders. There, the tourist can visit the Municipal Hall, the Steam Museum (Musee de la Vapeur - Stoomcentrum), the Chateau Sainte-Anne, the municipal park with its centuries-old trees, the Church of Saint Barbara built in 1071, with its high Gothic choir dating from the 15th century.

Knesselare

Located between Ghent and Bruges in a sandy wooded region, is particulary famous for its 'Chapel of Our Lady of Welcome Help' (Kapel van OLV van Bijstand - Chapelle de Notre Dame de Bon Secours), its restored wooden mill, the 'Pieten-driesmolen', and the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Willibrord. Knesselare is an attractive natural area, where visitors can walk all year in the Drongengoed and Ursel woods.
