The
city of Mons is home to several interesting museums. A few highlights :
1.
The Mundaneum.
This is the center for files and documentation of the French-speaking
community of Belgium. On display are numerous billboards, postcards,
newspapers as well as a collection about anarchy, feminism and peace. A
large part of the documents are available on computer screens.

Open from tuesday till sunday from 12 a.m. till 6 p.m. (Fridays until 20 p.m) 2. Treasure of the Sainte Waudru Church.
In the old chapter room of the church several art objects belonging to the church can be seen : manuscripts, silver and gold work from the 12th until the 19th century, alabaster statues by the famous Renaissance sculptor Jacques Du Broeucq, and, last but not least, the famous "Car d'or" (golden wagon) of the Mons procession.

3. The Museum of Fine Arts.
The original museum was built in 1908, and later adapted in 1970 by architect Ernest Vandestrate. The collections represents the different painting, etching and sculpture schools of Mons and the province of Hainaut during the 19th and 20th centuries.

4. Museum of Natural History.
This is one of the most beautiful natural history museums in Belgium. A rich
collection of animals and plants, both from Belgium?Europe and other
continents is on display. One of the more peculiar collection items is the
skeleton of Julius Koch, a.k.a Constantin the giant, who measured a total of
2 m 56.

5. Museum of Folklore and Life
in Mons.
The old infirmary of the "Filles de Notre-Dame" convent (1636) houses now a
collection focusing on the different aspects of life in the Mons area :
public assistance, popular devotion, weights, measurements, etc...A special
focus lies on the typical Mons celebrations and processions such as the
"Lumecon" battle and the Procession of the Golden Wagon.
